Downsizing and Moving -Tips and Tales

June 5. Welcome , to our weekly newsletter.  This issue  delivers 2 features on one of the most popular topics in last week's survey - downsizing. One article provides 12 tips for successful downsizing. The other feature profiles the experiences of 3 baby boomers who've just gone through the process.  We hope our tips can help you through this difficult, but rewarding process. Thanks to everyone who contributed these imaginative and thoughtful ideas for future polls, surveys, and articles - they are much appreciated. Feel free to add more!

On a personal note, I am very proud to report that my lovely wife's 11th murder mystery, "Topped Chef", has just been published by a division of Penguin Publishing. If you are familiar with Key West you will recognize most of the restaurants and settings in the novel.

We are so pleased that we asked! Last week we asked you to share your suggestions for future retirement topics - areas we could poll, survey, and write articles about.  There were 5 ideas that resonated the most - Moving/downsizing, Snowbirding, Renting, Affordability, and Retiring Single/as a woman. Almost a dozen other ideas came up as well. The article has links to articles where we have already covered these topics.
Lexington, KY
Panama is rated the #8 best place in the world to retire by this website. It uses the U.S. dollar and is a stable country. Boquete, a tourist destination here, is an interesting retirement choice. At 3,200' it is cooler than the coast, has beautiful natural scenery, and is famous for its coffee.

To provide more texture to what downsizing can be like, we've profiled  the experiences of 3 baby boomers who just moved to smaller homes.  Sandy, Tim, and Jan tell what what they went through, along with some good advice about how to do it better.
Hood River, OR
Located in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, this is one of the world's premiere wind surfing spots due to the high winds generated by the gorge and its 4,000-foot cliffs. The Lewis and Clark Trail, Multnomah Falls, and Mount Hood appeal to other outdoor adventurers. As a tourist destination the downtown has some nice offerings.
